Up to now, the main measurement for the gluon polarization in PHENIX is the double helicity asymmetry measurement of the neutral pion. The measurement indicates that the gluon polarization is too small to explain the proton spin with all of the quark and gluon polarizations. The translation of the measured asymmetry of the neutral pion to the gluon polarization include large uncertainties. One example of these uncertainties is the large fraction of neutral pion production mechanism is the soft QCD processes. The simulation of these processes is difficult. In addition to this fact, the perturbation calculation of these events is difficult to be guarantied. Then, we need more clean probe to confirm the gluon polarization value. The open heavy flavor is the necessary probe for this study, considering the current RHIC luminosity. As following facts, the open heavy flavor production is very clean process to measure the gluon polarization. At first, the pair production of charm and anti-charm in hard QCD process is the dominant process in the open heavy flavor production. Second, the mass of these open heavy meson is enough large (~1.87GeV) to guaranty the perturbation calculation. For analyze this good probe with PHENIX data, a large disc space and job submission authority are necessary to place PRDF files and to make DST files. So I'd like to apply to use CCJ disc spaces. # Estimated CPU time required : 6000 hours (with Pentium III 1GHz) # Estimated disk space usage required : 500 GB # Estimated HPSS space usage required : 50 GB # HPSS band width for above estimate : 10 MB/s # Target date for completion (cpu) : 31/ 3/12 (DD/MM/YY) (disk): 31/ 3/12 # Plan for the publication of this result (if possible) # Other useful infomation
